Fellowship Details | Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2025

All Fellowships for the 2024/25 round focus on the thematic area of Clean Energy, Air, and Oceans. The aim is to enhance professionals’ expertise and skills, contributing positively to their workplaces upon return.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a citizen of, or have refugee status from, an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Have at least five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant work experience in a profession related to the Fellowship program, by the proposed start of the fellowship (voluntary work experience is not counted).
  • Be employed at the time of application at an organization that they will return to after the Fellowship.
  • Provide at least two references, one from their current employer.
  • Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the last five years.
  • Not be seeking to undertake an academic program of research or study. Academics can apply, but only for programs of academic management, not research or courses related to their research subject.
  • Be available to start and complete the fellowship within the prescribed dates.

Eligible countries for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships include: Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Eswatini, Fiji, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, St Helena, St Lucia, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

Application Procedures:

Interested applicants should complete an online application form and provide all required information by the application deadline.

Fellowships will be tenable for six weeks to three months starting from February 2025. Applications for the 2024/25 academic year will open during the summer of 2024. Check back for updates.

In the meantime, prepare the following information for your application:

  • List all undergraduate and postgraduate university qualifications obtained.
  • List up to 10 publications and prizes (if applicable).
  • Details of employment history and explanation of relevance to the UK fellowship (up to 100 words per job).
  • A statement on the relevance of your work experience to the proposed fellowship (up to 300 words).
  • Names and positions of up to three referees (one must be your current employer).
  • A Development Impact statement based on the program’s thematic areas might also be required.
