This year, the African Fact-Checking Awards boast three distinct categories, each offering accolades to a winner and a runner-up:
- Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist
- Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker
- Fact-Check of the Year by a Student Journalist

The winners of the working journalist and professional fact-checker categories will each be awarded a grand prize of US$3,000, while the esteemed runners-up will receive $1,500.
In the student journalist category, the winner will be granted a remarkable sum of $2,000, with the runner-up securing a well-deserved $1,000.

To qualify for this prestigious competition, your entries must meet the following criteria:
- Original Work: Entries must be the original creation of the individual or team listed in the entry form.
- Exposure of Misleading Claims: Entries should scrutinize a claim on a significant topic related to or originating from Africa, highlighting its misleading or erroneous nature.
- Publication Date: Fact-checking pieces must have been first published or broadcast between July 1, 2023, and July 14, 2024.
